Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision metal components and assemblies.
- Provide technical expertise in turn/mill machining centers, grinding operations, tooling, fixturing, and precision inspection methods.
- Create and maintain manufacturing methods, routings, work instructions, setup documentation, and process controls to support efficient, repeatable production.
- Lead projects from concept through implementation, coordinating activities across engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams.
- Design and redesign products, tooling, and processes with a strong focus on ease of manufacturing, cost effectiveness, quality, and scalability.
- Use SolidWorks to support product and fixture design, and SolidCam to develop machining strategies and improve CNC programming efficiency.
- Analyze production challenges, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve throughput, yield, and product quality.
- Support grinding and machining operations that require tight tolerances, fine surface finishes, and consistent process capability.
- Collaborate with production teams to improve workflow, reduce setup time, and standardize best practices.
- Source components, raw materials, tooling, and outside services from qualified suppliers; evaluate supplier capabilities, quality, cost, and lead time.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to support prototype development, new part introduction, cost reduction, and ongoing supply continuity.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, delivery, and manufacturing efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a metalworking or precision machining environment.
- Strong knowledge of turn/mill machining centers, CNC machining practices, grinding processes, and tolerance-critical manufacturing.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and SolidCam or similar platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and guide cross-functional teams through implementation and process improvement efforts.
- Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), process development, and new product introduction.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and inspection requirements.
- Experience developing comprehensive manufacturing methods and process documentation.
- Strong supplier sourcing and vendor management skills, including evaluating quality, capability, cost, and lead time.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and individuals across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high production volume, low mix work manufacturing environment.
- Additional experience with low volume, high mix is a plus (i.e. job shop).
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process validation techniques.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, production planning, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Experience working directly with outside machining, grinding, heat-treat, plating, or specialty process suppliers.
