About the Role

The Pharmacy Operations Manager assists the Pharmacy Director with the overall day-to-day management of pharmacy operations and staff (Technicians and Pharmacists). This role assumes leadership accountability and responsibility for clinical operations, supervision of drug distribution, and supports pharmacy staff to enable effective processes for pharmaceutical ordering, dispensing, and clinical interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality patient care, resource management, program development, customer service, and facilities management.
  • Manages pharmacy operations in a cost-effective manner, including planning for new services and reducing/controlling expenses.
  • Assists the Director in developing and implementing an operational budget and strategic goals.
  • Directs day-to-day operations (24/7), delegating responsibility to ensure adequate resources are available and integrating services with other professional services for continuity of care.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, schedules, and supervises assigned staff, including performance appraisals and maintaining staff competence.
  • Stays abreast of applicable federal and state laws and professional standards to ensure pharmacy operations meet regulatory, legal, accreditation, and certification requirements.
  • Prepares and revises policies and procedures and ensures compliance with hospital and departmental guidelines.
  • Directs, coordinates, and participates in orientation, training, and continuing education programs for pharmacists and technicians.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Director with the medication safety program.
  • Represents the department in hospital and/or medical staff committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a B.S. in Pharmacy, M.S. in Hospital Pharmacy, or a Pharm.D. degree required.
  • Licensure as a Pharmacist required.
  • 1 to 2 years in a supervisory/management capacity required.
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited residency preferred, with a minimum of three years of experience in an acute care hospital system preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands.
  • Frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Occasional (0-33% of workday) bending, stooping, and squatting.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Auditory and visual skills, including color determination.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Capacity to cope with difficult situations.
  • Ability to tolerate irregular hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Environmental Requirements

  • Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.
  • Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Pay

Pay Range: $78.08 - $117.12 per hour.
