About the Role

Assist the Director of Patient Safety & Risk Management with the functions of the clinical risk management program and claims management for HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of healthcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Receive patient complaints and process as appropriate.
  • Assist in internal/external survey events, including preparation, availability, and assisting with action plan/report/response creation and completion.
  • Compile data from reports and input into spreadsheets for presentation to committees using Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint.
  • Effectively report, investigate, and analyze patient safety incidents, medical errors, and potential risks in the facility.
  • Coordinate committees and/or meetings, including scheduling, creating agendas, taking and transcribing minutes, and providing reminder calls.
  • Support improved outcomes by emphasizing appropriate behaviors and robust systems with concise accountability measures and follow-up.
  • Work with facility leaders to ensure thorough, credible, and timely event management.
  • Work with legal defense counsel to coordinate the investigation, processing, and defense of claims against the facility; maintain and provide privileged documents and information as necessary.
  • Assist the Patient Safety Director with administering the Patient Safety Program on a day-to-day basis.
  • Promote and display a positive, customer-oriented demeanor to patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Actively seek ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care, or services delivered.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the occurrence reporting system and use it to report potential patient safety issues.
  • Use the Performance Improvement Plan to enhance patient safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date.
  • Current Florida RN license or appropriate compact licensure preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of related experience preferred.
