Manager of Institutional Giving (Full-Time, Onsite)

About the role

MASS MoCA, one of the world’s liveliest and largest contemporary art organizations in the US, is seeking an experienced Manager of Institutional Giving to sustain and expand the museum’s institutional fundraising program.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of foundation and corporate funders and prospects, including managing relationships and cultivation for a subset of our foundation and corporate funders; collaborating across the organization to compile grant proposals and reports, narrative and financials; and driving strategies for growth while also responding to opportunities in a dynamic environment
  • Managing reporting for donor analysis, strategy, decision-making, and submission, working with the Institutional Giving Assistant
  • Prospecting for new foundation funding opportunities and communicating regularly with program staff on new prospects, potential program designs, and strategies for identifying additional funding for current projects
  • Cooking with events and program staff to develop guest lists for donor cultivation events
  • Supporting the director as they work with program teams in their portfolio, as needed
  • Supporting advancement events as needed
  • Supporting the maintenance of department tracking tools, including deadline lists and income projections

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in institutional fundraising in a fast-paced nonprofit environment, preferably within the arts and culture sector
  • Exceptional writing and verbal skills, with experience in grant proposal writing; strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Interest in front-facing funder cultivation, including proactive outreach and stewardship, written correspondence, zoom, and in-person meetings and site visits
  • Ability to adapt writing styles to fit the audience and voice of the piece; Ability to quickly and effectively gather information through interviews, research, etc.
  • Ability to nurture ongoing funder relationships to ensure retention year to year
  • Ability to successfully communicate with a wide range of internal constituents including Board members, senior management, program staff, finance staff, and volunteers
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines, with experience managing a robust and active grants calendar
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

  • This position is based on site at MASS MoCA’s North Adams campus; regular in-person attendance is required
  • Some duties of this position require being able to work outside
  • Must be able to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed
  • May require occasional lifting of supplies or materials related to departmental needs
  • The ability to be mobile (including, but not limited to walking, standing, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, etc.)
  • The ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds, as needed

Pay

In accordance with Massachusetts Wage Transparency Act, we are disclosing a good-faith salary range for this position: $58,000–$68,000 per year. This reflects our reasonable expectation at the time of posting. Final compensation will be influenced by factors such as experience, education, licensure, and qualifications, and this range is not a guarantee for any individual employee.

Schedule

This position may require extended hours, including occasional nights and weekends, holidays and for festivals and events. The schedule will be determined by the manager.
