Manager of Clinical Services (RN)

About the Role

The Manager of Clinical Services (MCS) is an experienced nurse and the administrator of the local St. Croix Hospice branch, leading the clinical care team responsible for patient care in their community. As a leader, the MCS hires and manages branch staff, providing direction, oversight, and leadership to ensure coordinated and high-quality hospice care. This role focuses on establishing a positive caregiving culture that enhances the quality of life for hospice patients and families while fostering a supportive workplace environment.

Responsibilities

• Receives case referrals and reviews patient information to determine hospice/home care needs.
• Assigns appropriate hospice personnel to cases and coordinates with the Medical Director or Hospice Physician regarding patient eligibility.
• Evaluates each case through home visits, conferences, and record reviews, providing guidance to clinicians to improve performance and care quality.
• Available during operating hours to assist clinicians as needed.
• Accountable for overall business management, including growth initiatives, cost control (medical expenses, DME, supplies), and business expansion.
• Reviews patient diagnoses, prognoses, medications, procedures, and clinical courses.
• Assists clinicians in establishing therapeutic goals and developing Plans of Care.
• Conducts quarterly record reviews and communicates findings to the Regional Director of Clinical Operations and hospice personnel.
• Participates in the screening, interviewing, and orientation of new employees; makes hiring recommendations.
• Hires, evaluates, and terminates personnel under the delegation of the Regional Director of Clinical Operations and/or Administrator.
• Conducts annual (or more frequent) evaluations for clinicians.
• Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, and reports for evaluation and compliance.
• Ensures proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment for patient services.
• Assists in planning, implementing, and evaluating in-service and continuing education programs.
• Implements organization policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
• Complies with professional standards and principles.
• Assesses community health needs and assists in developing programs to meet those needs.
• Participates in public relations and community activities to promote the organization’s role in hospice care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties

• Participates in on-call duties as defined by the on-call policy.
• Attends interdisciplinary group meetings.
• Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development through continuing education and in-service classes.
• Actively participates in quality assessment and performance improvement teams.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in state(s) of practice. Nurses holding a multistate license can practice in other states without additional licenses, except in Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois, which are not part of the Nursing Licensure Compact.
• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Ability to pass background check, consumer report, and drug test.
• Valid state driver’s license, access to an automobile in good working order, automobile insurance meeting state and organizational requirements, and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of management experience, preferably in a home care setting.
• 2+ years of nursing experience.

Physical Requirements

• Pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 30 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to adapt to a variety of work conditions to ensure high-quality patient care in a home setting.
