Manager of Accounting
Georgia-Pacific LLC is seeking an Accounting Manager to join the GP Recycling Team in Dothan, AL. This role focuses on developing partnerships, driving results, and managing a team of engaged professionals.
About the Role
The Accounting Manager will partner with business and capability leaders to support accounting excellence through current processes and drive process improvements. A successful candidate must be self-directed, possess knowledge of accounting and financial principles, and demonstrate strong internal financial control values. This role requires a keen attention to detail and an active learner mindset, with a strong aptitude for problem-solving, adopting new technologies, and improving processes through automation.
Location: Hybrid schedule of in-office and remote workdays. Local applicants within a commutable distance to Dothan, AL, or those willing to relocate, are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Build strong personal and team relationships by managing a team of 5-7 employees.
- Partner with employees, peers, and business leaders to review current processes for improvement, efficiencies, and system fit for new business; lead or participate in projects.
- Support the business and financial planning and analysis team through transactional excellence and decision-making processes by building strong relationships to anticipate business needs.
- Support the internal financial control environment by reviewing processes, identifying gaps, and developing improvement plans.
- Provide accounting and financial reporting oversight and supervision to team members.
- Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and adequate support.
- Advance the Principle-Based Management® (PBM®) culture by applying and reinforcing the company’s Guiding Principles.
Requirements
- Career experience in an Accounting or Finance role demonstrating working knowledge of financial accounting principles, general ledger, intercompany entries, month-end close, account reconciliation and analysis, and internal financial controls.
- Leadership experience, including leading a team or developing capability in others; ability to connect people to a larger vision and strategy while keeping them motivated and engaged.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on building working relationships and partnering with others to bridge gaps and solve problems.
- Flexibility to prioritize work in a dynamic environment, embrace change, and improve processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with customers and internal stakeholders via telephone, email, chat, and video calls.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and a desire to learn multiple accounting systems and tools.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Experience with integrated financial systems (INFOR M3 or Infinium preferred).
- Experience with analysis and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, OneStream).
- Experience developing process documentation, SOPs, and promoting best practices.
- Experience with system implementation, upgrades, testing, or reconciling transactions between multiple systems.
About the Team
The Accounting Manager reports to the GP Recycling Controller. The GP Recycling team consists of approximately 30 individuals, including 4 supervisors. Team members are expected to act as owners and entrepreneurs of the locations and businesses they support. GP Recycling is one of the largest pure traders of recycled fiber globally, trading over 100,000 tons per week and significantly reducing landfill waste.
