As Manager, Obligations Management, US, you will build and operate the framework that turns complex regulatory and partner obligations into real, tested, and well-evidenced controls across Airwallex's US-licensed entities and products. This hands-on, execution-focused role involves designing, implementing, and continuously improving controls, documentation, and reporting to demonstrate compliance. You will work closely with Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Legal, Risk, Product, Operations, and Finance teams, as well as external financial partners. This role is based in San Francisco or New York.
Responsibilities
- Identify, interpret, and operationalize regulatory and partner obligations across US jurisdictions, products, and licensed entities, translating them into clear governance, controls, and execution requirements.
- Manage the end-to-end design and implementation of key regulatory and partner controls, partnering with Product, Operations, Engineering, Risk, and Regulatory Compliance to embed controls into workflows and systems.
- Build and maintain regulator- and partner-ready documentation, including obligation mappings, control descriptions, RACIs, testing approaches, evidence standards, and remediation tracking.
- Engage with third parties such as regulators, auditors, and financial partners to explain obligations, control architecture, and operational controls.
- Support regulatory exams, audits, inspections, RFIs, and supervisory engagements by coordinating responses, curating evidence, and maintaining exam-ready documentation.
- Contribute to US regulatory reporting and obligations governance, ensuring clarity on reporting requirements, ownership, timelines, and systems.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or duplication in obligations, controls, and evidence, and drive pragmatic remediation or uplift plans.
- Help establish scalable obligations-management practices aligned with Airwallex’s global regulatory operating model.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in regulatory operations, compliance, internal audit, risk management, or a similar discipline within fintech, payments, or financial services.
- Proven experience translating legal, regulatory, or partner requirements into operational controls, procedures, and testing activities.
- Direct involvement in supporting regulatory exams, audits, inspections, RFIs, or partner due-diligence reviews, with ownership of planning, coordination, or remediation.
- Strong project management skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional control or reporting initiatives to completion.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to simplify complex regulatory concepts into clear control requirements and exam-ready materials.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, high-standards environment with evolving priorities and cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with payments, e-money, card issuing/acquiring, treasury, embedded finance, or multi-jurisdiction fintech business models.
- Exposure to US regulators (FinCEN, state financial regulators, CFPB) or US bank/card scheme partners on control or reporting topics.
- Experience building obligations registers, control libraries, or regulatory reporting operating models.
- Familiarity with GRC or similar tooling to manage obligations, controls, issues, and evidence at scale.
- Relevant professional certifications (CAMS, CRCM, CIA, CISA) or formal education in legal, compliance, risk, or audit.
