About the role
Meta is looking for a forward-thinking people manager with technical skills in backbone network operations to join the Edge and Network Services (ENS) operations organization. In this role, you will lead initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and risk management via process, systems, and data in one of the largest scale networks in the world. This role requires navigating a fast-moving operations organization and tackling complex operational and reliability challenges to implement processes and technical system solutions at a global scale.
Responsibilities
- Manage the team of engineers responsible for ensuring stable, compliant operations of IP and optical backbone networks, including monitoring key performance indicators/service level indicators (mean time to resolve, availability), triaging incidents, and driving root-cause analysis (advanced proficiency).
- Performance Management and Coaching: Sustain a proactive, action-oriented team through ongoing engagement on responsibilities, priorities, performance expectations, and development planning to optimize individual performance.
- Team Building: Recruit and hire qualified candidates to fill open roles and support team growth.
- Execution Enablement: Structure teams and working groups to optimize for the delivery of business outcomes. Set clear expectations, establish operational guardrails, and build a team that emphasizes ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Establish and manage metrics and measures to hold vendors accountable for reliability, responsiveness, and adherence to Meta’s standards.
- Standards Management: Create, maintain, and enforce operational Standard Operating Procedures, runbooks, provisioning workflows, and acceptance criteria. Ensure all operations adhere to Meta-wide best practices in design, security/compliance, and reliability.
- Supervise Vendor and Managed Service Provider performance assessment and incident/problem management to deliver a healthy, scalable ecosystem of vendors and MSPs focused on network availability, performance, and operational excellence.
- Communicate operational status, risk, and program updates to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in network engineering or network operations, with a focus on enterprise or site services network environments.
- 2+ years of experience managing or leading network engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and team development.
- Experience overseeing large-scale network deployment programs across multiple physical sites, including LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure.
- Experience with network incident management, change control processes, and operational tooling for monitoring and alerting in enterprise environments.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners including facilities, real estate, and infrastructure teams to deliver network services on time and at scale.
Qualifications
- Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements).
- Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews).
- Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.
- Vendor Partner Experience: Experience partnering with enterprise and service-provider vendors (network hardware platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, and Arista plus ITAD, logistics, and colocation vendors) to translate performance issues into improvement plans.
- Background in defining and tracking operational KPIs for network operations and support teams.
- Operations Center Experience: Direct leadership experience within a global Network Operations Center or IT Operations Center environment to manage Service Level Agreements and continuous improvement against metrics at scale.
- Experience managing network operations in a hyperscale or large enterprise environment with hundreds of distributed sites.
