Manager - Laboratory

About the role

This is a full time salaried Lab Manager position for the Histology/Pathology department at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison working typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday but may flex a bit based on department needs.

Responsibilities

• Prioritizes the daily workflow by coordinating and delegating daily technical operations.
• Selects, schedules, and assigns staff, adjusting hours and shifts as necessary.
• Evaluates activities of assigned area(s) to ensure patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service.
• Makes recommendations regarding the development of policies, goals and objectives.
• Implements unit or clinic policies, goals, and objectives.
• Maintains compliance with QA/QC standards required by laboratory regulatory agencies.
• Maintains department financial performance.
• Acts as laboratory liaison to other departments.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience and education.
• Experience: Five years' technical experience in a laboratory setting including two years' concurrent supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
• Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
• Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
• Rare climbing.

Professional Licenses and Certifications

• State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
• Required Professional Licenses and Certifications: Various certifications from ASCP, ASHP, and other state boards.
