About the role

The Manager - Inpatient Pharmacy Operations manages pharmacy services at all Baptist Health Care inpatient facilities according to hospital policies, standards of practice, and State and Federal laws. This role provides day-to-day oversight of distributive services through effective management of pharmacy staff, contributes to departmental planning, and formulates policies and procedures. The position ensures pharmacy services are delivered correctly, promptly, and professionally, while fostering staff competence and customer service. It also involves administrative duties, collaboration with physicians and other professionals, and handling confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Administration to develop training, orientation procedures, and schedules for pharmacy staff; update materials to maintain relevancy; provide skills training and staff development; ensure completion of required competencies.
  • Participate in candidate processing—review, interview, and hire—of department staff; complete performance appraisals.
  • Develop effective pharmacist and technician practice/staffing models; oversee work schedules and staffing coverage; schedule staff for educational programs and mandatory training; counsel employees in disciplinary situations.
  • Assist in managing pharmacy equipment, automation, and technology (e.g., sterile hoods, automated dispensing cabinets, compounders, repackaging machines).
  • Support the Consultant of Record in managing controlled substance inventory in compliance with State and Federal laws; assist with diversion detection systems.
  • Support the Director and leadership team with projects, compliance efforts, policy development, quality and safety initiatives; maintain current certifications/licensure and pursue professional growth.
  • Ensure staff and departmental compliance with BH policies, procedures, DNV, state, DEA, and other regulatory standards; maintain DNV readiness; perform staffing functions to meet daily work requirements.
  • Ensure excellent patient/customer service as measured by departmental service scores; conduct regular rounding; utilize service recovery; communicate departmental and organizational information effectively.
  • Participate in inventory control and materials management; ensure proper billing procedures; assist in compliance across all areas of hospital pharmacy.
  • Attend leadership and committee meetings; represent pharmacy to nursing units; serve as preceptor for pharmacy residents and students.
  • Manage team members, including orientation, development, and evaluation; recruit, interview, and select staff; evaluate performance; provide coaching and recommend in-service education.
  • Ensure operational excellence and fiscal management of the pharmacy department by delivering quality services and proper utilization of financial resources.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Pharmacy or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • 2 years of pharmacy experience.
  • 1-3 years of management/leadership experience.
  • Pharmacist Licensed in the State of Florida (upon hire).
  • Pharmacist Consultant Licensed in the State of Florida (within 1 year).
