About the Role

The Manager in Training is responsible for assisting the Store Manager regarding overall operations and administrative duties. This role is knowledgeable in each product area or department in the store and assists in determining the methods and approaches necessary to accomplish the store’s goals and initiatives. The Manager in Training upholds policies, procedures, and standards, promotes sales and promotions, and serves as an ambassador of Hibbett | City Gear to create a unique customer experience. This role assumes supervisory control in the Store Manager’s absence and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Store Manager in controlling the assets of Hibbett | City Gear.
  • Consult with Store Manager in establishing action plans to accomplish departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
  • Assume responsibility for the entire store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers in all departments when necessary.
  • Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability in all departments.
  • Direct staff to ensure each department’s responsibilities and standards are completed.
  • Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
  • Ensure quality customer service is maintained.
  • Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
  • Deliver extraordinary customer service, including assisting customers as they enter the store and during peak periods.
  • Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett | City Gear.
  • Uphold all Hibbett | City Gear policies, procedures, and standards as outlined in company manuals and memos.
  • Protect the company’s assets and financial information by ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of internal control procedures and reporting potential fraud risks.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, and resolving problems.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to assist in managing a team and align with overall goals and profits.
  • Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and with precision.
  • Team-player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
