Job Summary
As the Manager I, Finance, you will serve as the primary strategic financial architect for the Stop & Shop Marketing organization. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor leadership role designed for a candidate who thrives at the intersection of data-driven insights and retail / marketing strategy.
What We Ask of You
Strategic Financial Leadership: Lead the financial strategy and long-range planning for the Marketing department, aligning departmental spending with broader corporate financial goals.
Media & Ad Spend Planning: Understand actual results and insights on a period basis and partner with ADUSA on accrual entry and research. Partner with the Media team to evaluate the ROI of advertising channels (Digital, TV, Print, Social) and provide recommendations on budget reallocation to maximize impact.
Promotion & Coupon Management: Analyze the effectiveness of promotional events across personalized marketing offers. Partner with Stop & Shop Loyalty / Marketing to understand impact of Kiosk "free items" and its contribution to the brand results.
Loyalty & Personalization Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Loyalty Team to dissect program results. Partner with loyalty team to track total outstanding points, estimating the redemption of points to understand financial impact. Recommend solutions when identifying potential overspends.
Financial Planning: Conduct weekly financial readouts to track marketing expenses against KPIs, identify immediate risks or opportunities. Execute weekly forecast planning (latest estimate), annual budgeting and planned forecast cycles.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the financial "connective tissue" between Marketing, Merchandising, and Corporate Accounting to ensure accurate forecasting and performance tracking.
Insightful Analysis: Move beyond reporting to provide "the story" behind the data, delivering actionable insights to senior leadership regarding market trends. Ability to notice when something doesn't seem right (or inaccurate), complete research and (if needed) determine the root cause and work with others (across other brands and ADUSA) to solve and prevent in the future.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance, ideally within Retail, CPG, or a high-volume consumer-facing industry.
Financial Planning Expertise: Strong background in corporate budgeting, forecasting and P&L management within a large-scale, matrixed organization. Work through multiple journal entries and account reconciliations - understanding of accounting concepts desired.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA a plus).
Analytical Rigor: Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and data visualization. You should be comfortable navigating complex datasets to find simple truths.
Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to think several steps ahead and understand how marketing decisions impact the bottom line across the entire enterprise.
