Manager, HIMS Service Lines

About the role

Serves as a member of the ECU Health Management team with primary responsibilities for the oversight and management of the operations of the Health Information Services (HIMS) division.

Responsibilities

• Effectively manage, coach, and evaluate the proficiency and productivity of HIMS Operations staff.
• Establish and monitor work assignments, manage individual performance against job descriptions and performance metrics.
• Foster a climate of teamwork, collaboration, and shared governance; encourage professional and personal development.
• Promote a culture of reward, retention, and internal promotion; support staff recruitment and development programs.
• Lead an interdisciplinary workforce to provide competent, efficient, and compassionate care and services.
• Provide professional development counseling to enhance retention and employee satisfaction.
• Establish policies and guidelines for HIMS to ensure health information security and quality standards.
• Manage multiple high-priority projects, lead a diverse team, and communicate effectively across organizational levels.

HIMS Operations

• Manage and coordinate HIMS Operations activities to ensure complete, accurate, and timely medical record documentation adhering to regulatory and legal guidelines.
• Support revenue cycle, quality, and other stakeholders through compliant documentation.
• Oversee growth, development, and operational activities related to HIMS Operations; implement goals, objectives, budgets, and performance standards.
• Ensure standardized and consistent practices across facilities.
• Build collaborative relationships with hospital leadership and physicians to address compliant documentation and timely completion of medical records.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for HIMS Operations for designated leadership at ECU Health hospitals.
• Maintain consistent communication with hospital leaders to address operational needs.
• Actively manage and monitor HIMS Operations processes, performance, and quality; report facility and department-specific key performance indicators.
• Analyze performance trends, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Lead individuals and groups toward identified outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering quality services.
• Ensure adequate staffing coverage in all functional areas and maintain workflow.
• Collaborate with the IT department to ensure appropriate systems, enhancements, and tools are utilized for day-to-day operations.
• Monitor systems for optimal performance and recommend upgrades or changes.
• Participate in IT-related steering committees for initiatives affecting HIMS Operations workflows.
• Work with external vendors and monitor compliance with contracted service level agreements.
• Proactively manage issues, barriers, and successes; identify and implement process improvements to decrease costs and improve service.
• Serve as the HIMS Operations representative on designated committees.
• Collaborate with other HIMS leaders to develop and update policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related field required.
• Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required.
• Three additional years of leadership or HIMS operations experience with either a two-year Associate Degree in HIT or successful completion of the AHIMA correspondence course/independent study program in HIT can substitute for the four-year degree.
• Three to five years of leadership experience, including 1-3 years of related HIMS experience.

Pay

$75,857.60 - $110,567.60/year

Schedule

• Onsite role based in Greenville, NC.
• Full-time day shift, Monday - Friday.
• Rotating call schedule.
