About the role

The Manager, General Maintenance position at Duke University is responsible for overseeing and coordinating facilities management services for the campus community. Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, and coordinate facilities management services for the Campus community
  • Develop and implement processes for accurate and timely work distribution to staff
  • Ensure day-to-day compliance with work processes and key metrics
  • Evaluate work output for quality, efficiency, and timeliness, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Prepare regular reports and analyses to monitor progress, identify unfavorable trends, and offer strategic recommendations
  • Aid in determining fiscal requirements and preparing the departmental budget
  • Maintain regular communication and positive relationships with faculty and staff from various University departments
  • Participate in Facilities Management Department (FMD) emergency preparedness planning and emergency response activities as required
  • Manage personnel actions, including hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, disciplinary actions, transfers, and vacation schedules
  • Train employees in proper processes and procedures, addressing deficiencies through effective training methods
  • Evaluate and make recommendations concerning equipment, tools, and processes to improve operating efficiency and workplace safety
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Department leadership

Requirements

  • Education: Requires a 2-Year Facilities Management related degree. Generally requires a license, where applicable.
  • Experience: Requires eight years direct facilities management operations experience. Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience OR AN EQUIVAENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Abilities: Ensure day-to-day compliance with work processes and key metrics
  • Reports and analyses: Prepare reports and analyses to monitor progress, identify unfavorable trends, and offer strategic recommendations
  • Fiscal requirements: Assist in determining fiscal requirements and preparing departmental budgets
  • Expenditures: Monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds in compliance with University policies and procedures
  • Relationships: Develop strong working relationships with Union leadership and staff (where applicable)
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication and positive working relationships with faculty and staff across University departments
  • Emergency preparedness: Participate in emergency preparedness planning and emergency response activities as required
  • Personnel actions: Manage personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, transfers, and scheduling
  • Training: Train employees in proper processes and procedures and address performance gaps through effective training
  • Equipment evaluation: Evaluate equipment, tools, and processes to improve efficiency and workplace safety

Benefits

Duke University offers an annual base salary range for this position as USD $62,694.00 to USD $107,633.00. Pay

The anticipated pay range for this position is USD $62,694.00 to USD $107,633.00.
