Manager Financial Reporting- General Accounting

Location: Brooklyn Heights. Shift: 8am–5pm.

About the role

Leads assigned staff through the monthly close process, including issuing annual audited financial statements. Ensures that financial statements and financial reporting are of high quality through attention to detail, the use of analytical tools, and technical guidance. Ensures that financial reporting is completed in an accurate and timely manner, and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board’s (FASB) standards. Provides leadership and mentoring to management and staff. Makes recommendations to senior leadership for policy enhancements to ensure optimal controls and efficiencies. Manages relationships with suppliers of goods and services to The MetroHealth System. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including preparation of annual audited financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards in all financial reporting.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to accounting staff and management.
• Analyze financial data and recommend policy improvements for controls and operational efficiencies.
• Manage supplier relationships for the health system.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of management and present findings as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
• Six years of progressively responsible experience in financial accounting.
• Four years of progressively responsible management experience.
• Two years of experience in public accounting and/or financial reporting.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB standards.
• Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
• Strong research and analysis skills, with the ability to propose positions on accounting issues.
• Proven project management skills, including supervising administrative projects.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results with strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to work additional hours as needed (e.g., during month-end close).
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
• Experience in healthcare finance.
• Advanced knowledge of GASB standards.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Access.

Physical Requirements

• May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.
• May need to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Must see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
• Must hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
• Finger dexterity required to operate office equipment.
• Ability to communicate via face-to-face interactions, phone, email, and other methods.
• Ability to view computer monitors and departmental documents.
