About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Manager Corporate Fleet to lead and optimize transportation capital investment performance across our network. This role is responsible for delivering accurate and cost-effective equipment specifications and optimized fleet equipment utilization through strong leadership, data-driven decision-making, and operational excellence. This is a high-impact leadership role with significant influence over fleet strategy, transportation cost structure, and service execution across a large-scale retail supply chain.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Network Performance
- Manage and optimize life cycle replacement for diesel and battery electric transportation equipment across 16 distribution centers supporting a fleet of 1,500+ tractors, 5,000+ trailers, 120+ yard spotters, 85+ dollies, and 30+ miscellaneous transportation vehicles (fuelers, service rigs, snowplows).
- Develop and maintain a strong relationship with OEMs and parts suppliers.
- Fleet Operations & Asset Optimization
- Lead enterprise fleet strategy across a large-scale private fleet, including:
- Tractor, trailer, trailer refrigeration (TRU), spotter, and lift gate equipment spec selection.
- Asset lifecycle planning, replacement strategy, & capital investment (5-year rolling capital forecast), capital approval, equipment build schedule, delivery, onboarding (PDI, unit numbering, decals, titling, license and permitting, IFTA Tax, mileage tax) and invoice payment.
- Equipment warranties, equipment recalls and campaigns, and equipment disposal.
- Battery electric vehicle strategy, charging infrastructure, carbon credits, and autonomous vehicles.
- Improve asset up time, utilization, and total cost of ownership across the network.
- Drive initiatives to reduce fuel consumption, idle time, and overall operating costs through efficient equipment specs.
- Lead enterprise fleet strategy across a large-scale private fleet, including:
- Transportation Strategy & Freight Optimization
- Support and expand “Own More Freight” strategy by:
- Selecting the correct equipment to facilitate and support a wide range of backhaul opportunities.
- Evaluating insource vs outsource strategies to balance cost, capacity, and service.
- Support and expand “Own More Freight” strategy by:
- Technology, Systems & Analytics
- Ensure optimal configuration, adoption, and continuous improvement of Transportation Vehicle Telematics across all DCs (ELD, driver safety, food safety & security, EKOS/GasBoy (fuel), and back up cameras).
- Leverage Maintenance Software (TMT) data, vehicle telematics, and advanced analytics by OEM to enhance equipment spec decision-making.
- Develop and standardize reporting and KPI dashboards to monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Operational Excellence
- Establish and standardize transportation SOPs and best practices across all distribution centers.
- Standardize equipment specifications (and approved options) and lead RFP efforts with Strategic Sourcing for:
- Core transportation equipment (all vehicles and TRU).
- Tires.
- Lubricants.
- Tractor and Trailer Graphics.
- 3rd party maintenance services.
- Support compliance and all applicable regulatory requirements with DOT, OSHA, FSMA, FDA, FMCSA, and CARB.
- Promote a strong safety culture with clear accountability and measurable results.
Requirements
- 10 plus years of transportation, fleet operations, or supply chain experience (grocery or retail preferred).
- 5 plus years of leadership experience operating a fleet.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale fleet operations and delivering measurable improvements in cost, service, and utilization.
