About the role

Elevate Recycling and Disposal Services is a growth-oriented waste collection and disposal platform building scale through acquisition. We bring acquired companies onto a common operating standard while continuing to expand our base business. As our fleet grows across more locations, we need a hands-on fleet leader who can keep trucks safe, compliant, and on the road while setting one maintenance standard company-wide.

The Corporate Fleet Manager is responsible for the safety, reliability, compliance, and cost-effectiveness of Elevate's entire fleet of collection trucks, roll-off and service vehicles, trailers, container-handling equipment, and support vehicles across all operating locations. This role sets fleet standards and maintenance programs company-wide, oversees maintenance shops and technicians at each location, and leads fleet capital planning, including vehicle specification, acquisition, replacement, and disposal. The Corporate Fleet Manager ensures the fleet meets all DOT and state regulatory requirements, manages fleet technology such as diagnostics, telematics, and camera systems, and controls maintenance, parts, and fuel costs. Working closely with Operations, Safety, and Finance, the Corporate Fleet Manager keeps trucks on the road, protects drivers and technicians, and ensures fleet decisions support Elevate's service commitments and earnings.

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Maintenance Programs
    • Establish and enforce effective company-wide preventive maintenance (PM) standards and schedules for all trucks, trailers, and equipment.
    • Oversee daily maintenance and repair operations at each location so that front-line trucks are available for scheduled routes, and work with Operations to plan spare coverage and minimize service disruptions.
    • Diagnose recurring and major repair issues, decide between repair, rebuild, and replacement, and manage large repairs such as engines, transmissions, and body replacements to completion.
    • Standardize work orders, repair documentation, and maintenance records across all shops in a fleet maintenance management system.
    • Manage warranty claims, recalls, and vendor or dealer repairs to recover costs and reduce downtime.
  • Shop & Technician Management
    • Establish and oversee the process to hire, train, and develop maintenance leadership, technicians, and shop leads across Elevate's locations, including setting staffing levels to match fleet size and workload.
    • Assign and balance technician coverage between locations and coordinate traveling or mobile service support where a location lacks in-house capacity.
    • Ensure each shop and service truck is properly equipped with tools, diagnostic equipment, hydraulic hose and repair capability, and other resources needed to repair the fleet safely and efficiently.
    • Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support technician skill development and certifications.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure the fleet complies with FMCSA/DOT and state requirements, including annual DOT inspections, driver vehicle inspection report (DVIR) follow-up, out-of-service defect repairs, and maintenance record retention.
    • Manage vehicle registrations, permits, IRP and IFTA fuel tax reporting, and emissions requirements across all states where Elevate operates, including automating mileage and fuel data collection where possible.
    • Maintain shop safety programs in coordination with the Safety department, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), equipment guarding, lifting, hazardous materials handling, and OSHA requirements.
    • Identify and promptly correct vehicle safety issues, including equipment weight, balance, lighting, braking, and visibility concerns, and support accident and incident investigations involving fleet equipment.
  • Fleet Capital Planning & Asset Management
    • Maintain a complete fleet asset inventory with age, mileage/hours, condition, and lifetime cost for every vehicle and major piece of equipment.
    • Develop and update a multi-year fleet replacement plan and annual capital budget recommendations in coordination with the COO and CFO.
    • Write specifications for new and used trucks, bodies, trailers, and service vehicles; obtain bids or quotes; and manage acquisitions, upfitting, and in-service setup.
    • Manage disposal and remarketing of retired vehicles and equipment to maximize recovery value.
    • Review fleet needs and repair requests from each location and prioritize them by safety, service impact, and return on investment.
  • Fleet Technology, Telematics & Diagnostics
    • Manage diagnostic tools and software (such as JPRO) across all shops, including interface upgrades and annual license renewals.
    • Evaluate, implement, and manage telematics and camera systems that support safety, driver coaching, fuel management, maintenance alerts, and IFTA mileage reporting.
    • Use fleet data to monitor vehicle health, idle time, fuel consumption, and fault codes and to drive maintenance and operating decisions.
  • Cost Control, Parts & Vendors
    • Develop and manage the annual fleet maintenance operating budget, including labor, parts, tires, outside repairs, and fuel.
    • Track and reduce maintenance cost per mile and per engine hour by vehicle type and location.
