About the role
The Manager for Clinical Laboratory Services provides management and leadership direction for the clinical operations of Phlebotomy, Processing, and Support operations of Client Services and Outreach Clients. Works cooperatively with the Administrative Director and Medical Director to manage physical and human resource assets in accordance with departmental, hospital, and corporate policies. Manages departments to high standards consistent with all quality policies and accreditation requirements. Provides education, leadership, and guidance to staff to ensure success and compliance with department and organizational standards.
Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Directs operations in Phlebotomy, Processing, Client Services, and Outreach Services. Ensures high-level customer service for internal and external customers through timely responsiveness, effective communication, workflow management, and problem-solving. Interacts with clinicians, patient care staff, and clients regarding sample collection, specimen handling, and communication. Formulates, reviews, and implements policies and procedures. Trains staff in standard operating procedures and serves as a resource for laboratory and hospital staff.
- Human Resources Management: Designs and implements staffing plans to ensure coverage, meet turnaround time goals, and maintain high-quality results. Selects, coaches, and addresses employee performance issues. Manages human resources according to hospital policies, labor laws, and collective bargaining contracts. Recognizes team and individual accomplishments, fosters open communication, and promotes teamwork.
- Asset Management: Assists in developing the section’s capital budgets, projects needs, and submits proposals. Manages equipment repair and maintenance, ensures optimal functionality, and addresses current and future space needs. Meets all equipment and space-related accreditation requirements.
- Quality and Regulatory Management: Ensures compliance with DNV, CAP, CMS, and other regulatory agency standards. Develops Quality Assessment and Improvement programs. Assists in data gathering for quarterly QI reports and responds to deficiencies within required timelines. Maintains professional certification and current knowledge of technological and management applications.
- Market Initiative: Develops and maintains a customer service program using external surveys and internal data for improvement initiatives. Ensures the department is strategically positioned for the competitive market.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director and covers shifts in case of emergency or staff shortages.
- Occasional but critical duties: Attends continuing education activities, section and departmental meetings, hospital manager’s meetings, and hospital-wide committees/activities.
- Decision Making and Budget Responsibilities: Influences departmental and organizational decisions. Develops and monitors sections’ budgets, submits budgets on time, and meets financial expectations. Monitors monthly variances and assesses opportunities for increased productivity and efficiency.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, business management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum five years of experience in a clinical laboratory or phlebotomy setting, including at least two years managing personnel. Experience in hiring, scheduling, and managing staff performance.
- Licenses/Certifications: Phlebotomy certification preferred upon hire and required within 90 days of hire. ASCP certification preferred.

Pay
Pay range: $104,312.00/yr. to $162,988.80/yr.
