Manager, Business Development
About the Role
McGuireWoods is seeking a self-driven leader to join its Business Development team as a Business Development Manager (BDM) in our Chicago, Richmond, New York, or DC office. This role will support our market-leading Healthcare and Life Sciences practices to develop and execute clear strategies and business plans utilizing a wide range of marketing functions. The BDM serves as the primary point person to facilitate client opportunities with the lawyers, develop key messaging for better positioning in the market, and collaborate across departmental and geographic lines to identify leading revenue-generating opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with attorneys in assigned practice groups to develop business plans, marketing strategies, and drive client targeting.
- Provide strategy for and drive business development activities, including:
- Business plans and practice-specific initiatives
- Conferences, seminars, webinars, and receptions
- Client relationship management and account management
- Client opportunities (pitches, targeting, and RFP responses)
- Developing and maintaining marketing collateral, bios, and examples of representative experience
- Directory submissions
- External and internal visibility, including thought leadership, blogs, and profile series
- Budget planning and forecasting.
- Serve as a mentor and team lead to junior colleagues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of five years of business development and/or marketing experience within a law firm, a comparable professional services organization, or within the Healthcare and Life Sciences industry.
Skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities; adapts to changing work environments in-house and for clients.
- Strong project management experience, including conferences and events.
- Strategic thinker who understands branding and consistency of message.
- Self-starter with discipline to balance long-term strategic vision with effective day-to-day implementation.
- Experience with Foundation (or other knowledge management tools) is desired.
- Technology-savvy; knowledge of relevant existing software and ability to learn new programs.
- Interest in using innovative AI technology, including Harvey and Copilot, to support efficient high-impact work.
