Overview
The Burn Program Manager works under the direct supervision of the Burn Services Director to enhance the quality of burn care across all departments and disciplines involved in the hospital's burn patient care. This role involves coordinating and facilitating performance improvement data collection, analysis, and benchmarking, aligning with American Burn Association standards for verification.
Position Requirements
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current MS RN licensure. ACLS and ABLS certification preferred.
- Education: BSN or Bachelor’s Degree required. Minimum of 16 hours of burn-related continuing education annually.
- Experience: At least three years of nursing experience in surgical care, critical care, or emergency department. Disease process education experience required. Experience in Quality Assurance desired.
Responsibilities
- Identifies all patient cases meeting burn registry criteria and reviews medical records thoroughly for necessary elements.
- Retrieves and analyzes data, disseminating burn information and reports as part of the Performance Improvement Program.
- Participates actively in the Burn Performance Improvement program, including data analysis, medical record extrapolation, data entry, and performance improvement projects.
- Works in a multidisciplinary manner, consulting with physicians or other clinical staff as needed for burn case reporting information.
- Reports and/or transmits hospital quality data in a timely and accurate manner, as required by state and national registries.
- Validates data abstraction and entry as directed by the Burn Services Director.
- Maintains Burn verification status by collaborating with Burn Services Director, Burn Medical Director, and burn center staff.
- Supports education activities, including Burn Quality-related education programs and coordinates CME lectures and ABLS courses.
- Collaborates with and supports outside facilities to address process improvement opportunities.
