About the role
The Mammography Technologist will obtain the highest quality mammograms following the ACR/FDA requirements. They will also engage in population appropriate communication, giving clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment, involving family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient. They will recognize and respond appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems, interpret population-related data, and plan care accordingly.
Responsibilities
- Engages in population appropriate communication.
- Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
- Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
- Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
- Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
- Performs mammographic and DEXA procedures in accordance with established protocols.
- Explains procedures to patients.
- Prepares images, prior studies, and paperwork including patient history and location of previous films.
- Sets up studies for radiologists for interpretation.
- Faxes release forms to appropriate facilities for release of previous mammograms.
- Follows up on received films in a timely manner.
- Digitizes images and ensures they are available for radiologists in Dx Secure View.
- Maintains appropriate records and supplies.
- Assists with meeting all requirements for different accreditations.
- Participates in continuing education activities related to the field of Mammography.
- Obtains and maintains required licensure.
- Demonstrates and maintains skill in providing care for patients of specific age groups, such as adult and geriatric, through in-service and continuing education.
- Performs evaluative equipment tests and participates in Quality Assurance program.
- Qualifies patients for funding programs.
- Maintains records of results.
- Tracks grant funds.
- Tracks patient results and notifies appropriate parties to ensure proper follow-up is obtained.
- Does all follow-up of abnormal mammograms including calling patients to schedule return appointments.
Qualifications
- Completion of JRCERT approved program in Radiologic Technology or an Associate of Science Degree in Radiology Technology.
- Registered as a Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
- Must obtain Advanced certification in mammography within 12 months of start date.
- Current licensure by the State of Ohio.
- Minimum Required: 0-1 years of experience. Prefer experience in mammography but will train.
