About the Role

The Mammography Technologist will perform diagnostic imaging functions as described in the staff technologist job description. In addition, they will perform mammographic imaging and assume QA/QC responsibilities. The role requires self-motivation, independent judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Empathy in high-stress situations is essential.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Associate degree in Allied Health
• Completion of a CAHEA-approved school of Radiologic Technology

Qualifications

• Registered Mammography Technologist by ARRT or registry-eligible (must achieve Mammography certification within six months of hire)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEC in a two-year period) and other ARRT requirements
• Maintain 15 Continuing Education credits (CEC) in Mammography within a three-year period

Responsibilities

• Perform routine breast imaging with optimum diagnostic quality while ensuring patient comfort and tolerance
• Perform general radiology imaging
• Maintain compliance with Trinity Health Breast Imaging Center policies and procedures, including:
  • Needle localizations
  • Specimen imaging
  • Patient callbacks
  • Core biopsies
• Demonstrate competence in advanced breast imaging techniques, including:
  • Spot compression
  • Magnification procedures
  • Lesion and calcification localization
  • Breast implant procedures
  • Breast specimen imaging
• Perform and document accreditation testing requirements for agencies such as ACR, State of Michigan, and Mammography Quality Standards Act
• Report QA/QC testing problems to coordinator or supervisor and document all corrective actions taken
• Participate in department meetings, orientation training, in-service programs, and quality assurance programs
• Engage with hospital committees related to women’s health
