About the role

The Radiology Supervisor in Mammography is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Imaging department and ensuring safe, efficient care of patients while maintaining fiscal responsibility for staff and supply levels. Responsibilities

  • 55% LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION
    Supervises employees in their daily work assignments and responsible for the workflow in the department.
    Monitors the schedules and maintains adequate staffing for the shifts that the supervisor is responsible for.
    Makes the necessary calls to maintain adequate coverage. Follows procedures from one shift to another for coverage of sick and tardiness.
    Works with the Associate Chief for ensuring adequate coverage at all times. Working supervisor assists with procedures and patient care.
    Responsible for training of staff to create a positive work environment and increase job skills.
    Uses appropriate forms for orientation and equipment orientation. Reviews and evaluates job performances on an ongoing basis, communicates any job performance issues to employee and to the Associate Chief in a timely manner.
    Completes written performance appraisals, completed and given by the appraisal due date. Maintains current licenses and certifications for all technologists.
    Organizes the workflow according to the degree of urgency and or acuity level.
    Coordinates patient examinations that have special circumstances and or multiple examinations that have to interface with other radiology sections or departments.
    Facilitates patient transport.
    Monitors and insures equitable distribution of workload and work assignments for employees.
    Assigns lunch and break relief.
    Maintains patient waiting times to a minimum by exercising good planning and organization to achieve maximum utilization of resources that are assigned.
    Maintains flexibility in the daily routine in order to handle the unexpected problem.
    Coaches and instructs the technologist as necessary in correct performance of department procedures, film quality, patient positioning and proper use of equipment.
    Encourages teamwork and cooperation.

  • 10% ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
    Is knowledgeable and enforces UCSF and department policies and procedures. Keeps current on patient safety to include electrical, mechanical, fire, safety and disaster procedures.
    Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians and other departments.
    Assures that work environment is clean and in compliance with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.
    Adheres to all regulatory agencies, Department of Health, JCAHO, Title 17, MQSA
    Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures.
    Remains current on patient safety to include electrical, mechanical, fire, safety and disaster procedures.
    Is a role model by maintaining a professional, neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy.
    Enforces established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness.
    Consistent with training, UCSF Medical Center Policies, and the TUGs Operations Manual, Nuclear Medicine – PET/CT at Mission Bay may receive TUGs; removes, distributes and/or places contents in appropriate storage areas; cleans and disinfects TUGs; deploys TUGs; returns TUGs to appropriate holding areas.

  • 15% INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
    Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System EPIC, APeX, RADIANT, Sectra
    Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System for the selection of the Visit Number.
    Insures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested.
    Utilizes hospital/department computers for hospital business only. Demonstrates confidentiality using own password.
    Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Department PAC’s System.
    Ensures that all exams in the radiology computer system are completed following the procedure and that they are coded correctly.

  • 5% DEVELOPMENT
    Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice.
    Maintains current licensure and completion of all required continuing education.
    Attends assigned staff development activities for the department.
    Participates in cross training activities when necessary.
    Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
    Attends professional meetings or seminars to keep current within the field of Radiology or supervisory/management.

  • 10% PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
    Assures that the performance and documentation of the Daily, Monthly, or Annual Quality Control tests are complete and accurate.
    Reports any non-compliance to the appropriate resource.
    Insures that appropriate documentation occurs and reporting of incidents in a timely manner regarding patients, employees and physicians.
    This includes patient and employee injuries.
    Participates in and encourages staff participation in the department’s Performance Improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Required qualifications:
    Clinical practice knowledge and applied background in a mammography modality.
    Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols.
    Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute care setting to improve operations.
    2-3 years of current or previous supervisory skills
    10 years of imaging experience.
    Previous management or supervisory experience in in healthcare environment is preferred.
    Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts, sites and Lead coverage for weekends and holidays
    Ensures compliance with licensing and regulatory standards (Federal, State, and ACR) in Mammography including assurance of accurate audit of required statistics.
    Manage and help implement appropriate data collection of information needed to monitor clinical, operational, and financial outcomes, as well as MQSA QA/QC standards.
    Strong experience in regulatory FDA and MQSA QA/QC standards.
    Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving Radiology processes, protocols, databases, and technology.
    Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technologists, and other clinical staff.
    Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity.
    Interpersonal skills to collaborate within and across departments.
    Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunctions in order to contact appropriate service personnel.
    Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking
    Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution.
    Demonstrates sound judgement.
    Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups.
    Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
    Maintain and update the Breast Imaging Policy and Procedure manual.
    Direct responsibility of personnel performance evaluations for Breast Imaging.
    Collaborates with Regional Radiology managers regarding performance and reviews.
    Provides assistance in making decisions on appropriate staffing, termination, and other personnel activities.
    Plans, implements, and evaluates staff development.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
    2-3 years previous supervisory skills
