Temple University's Institutional Advancement Department is searching for a Major Gift Officer focused on Athletics.

About the role

The Major Gifts Officer for Athletics will devise strategies and be responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors to advance donor levels and close major gifts for Athletics. This role involves meeting or exceeding portfolio metrics, including:

  • Executing 15-20 substantial face-to-face visits per month.
  • Delivering a combination of annual and major proposal goals based on portfolio value and tenure (goal of 24 major gift proposals and/or 100 annual proposals).
  • Managing a portfolio of 75 donors and prospects, focusing on soliciting and closing major gifts at the $50,000 level, special gifts, and leadership-level annual gifts.
  • Identifying and qualifying prospects, engaging and cultivating current and prospective donors, and stewarding donors.
  • Increasing portfolio giving at a rate of 10% per year.
  • Creating, tracking, and running necessary Annual Giving reports and stats on a weekly basis.
  • Logging metrics and contact information into the University system.

The role also involves motivating administrators, coaches, staff, and volunteers to participate in the development process, assisting in special events, and overseeing giving initiatives and projects for donor acquisition and participation.

Responsibilities

  • Devise and execute strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of 75 donors and prospects, focusing on major gifts at the $50,000 level.
  • Conduct 15-20 face-to-face donor visits per month.
  • Deliver 24 major gift proposals and/or 100 annual proposals annually.
  • Increase portfolio giving by 10% per year.
  • Create and track Annual Giving reports and metrics weekly.
  • Log contact information and metrics into the University system.
  • Motivate and engage administrators, coaches, staff, and volunteers in the development process.
  • Assist in the execution of special events and staffing volunteer groups.
  • Oversee giving initiatives, events, and projects for donor acquisition and participation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in non-profit fundraising.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in collegiate athletics.

Skills

  • Proven successful experience in individual fundraising.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and relationship-building competencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of the complexities of an urban university and ability to represent its goals persuasively to multiple constituents.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Experience with relational databases and computer systems.
  • Ability to develop and sustain collaborative relationships with internal and external colleagues and prospects.
  • Self-starter with intellectual curiosity, goal-oriented mindset, and ability to build trust with diverse individuals.
  • Fluency with database systems, Excel, Word, and other standard programs.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and sustaining relationships with key donors, volunteer leadership, and senior staff.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust to a dynamic work environment.

Pay

Salary Range: $58,850 - $75,000. A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.

This position is 100% on-site.
