About the role
Kanbe's Markets works to build a more inclusive food system by redirecting fresh produce into neighborhoods through partnerships with local retailers, community organizations, and hunger relief partners. Over the past ten years, Kanbe's has redirected millions of pounds of produce, expanded access to fresh food across the Kansas City region, and developed innovative approaches to reducing food loss while strengthening local communities.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors and prospects, focusing on individuals giving $10,000 and above.
- Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for individual donors.
- Conduct donor meetings, tours, site visits, and other engagement opportunities.
- Build relationships with new prospective donors and facilitate introductions to the organization.
- Partner with organizational leadership on major gift strategy and donor engagement.
- Support capital campaign planning and implementation efforts.
- Lead the planning and execution of donor-focused fundraising and cultivation events, including the Ugly Dinner Series, Plate & Pallet, donor breakfasts, and other engagement opportunities.
- Coordinate event logistics, vendors, volunteers, and donor communications.
- Partner with staff, board members, and volunteers to execute successful events from planning through follow-up.
- Support donor stewardship and cultivation efforts resulting from event participation.
- Create meaningful stewardship opportunities for donors throughout the year.
- Collaborate with staff to share organizational updates, stories, and impact with supporters.
- Maintain accurate donor records and engagement activity in Virtuous CRM and HubSpot.
- Track donor activity, moves management, and fundraising progress.
- Prepare reports and portfolio updates as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a focus on major gifts, individual giving, or donor relations.
- Experience planning and managing donor cultivation, stewardship, or fundraising events.
- Demonstrated success building and managing donor relationships.
- Experience meeting fundraising goals and managing donor portfolios.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience using CRM systems to manage donor information and engagement activity.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential.
- Capital campaign experience.
- Experience working with donor databases such as Virtuous, HubSpot, Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar platforms.
- Interest in food systems, community development, or nonprofit innovation.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $90,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
Benefits: Full-time (40 hours per week) position with health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a retirement plan with employer matching.
Paid Time Off: Up to 176 hours of paid time off annually, available after 90 days of continuous employment.
