Maintenance Worker/Porter I (Chinatown YMCA)

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the Chinatown YMCA is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintaining upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
• May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
• Ensures the Chinatown YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
• Replaces soap, paper towels and other supplies.
• May set up furniture and/or rooms for events.
• Strips and waxes floors, also shampoos rugs as needed.
• Follows standards of DOH, DOB, FDNY, HPD and ECB Departments.
• Follows YMCA Housekeeping Policies and Procedures.

Desired Skills & Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of six (6) months of experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment, along with basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe and efficient use.
• Ability to obtain YMCA Housekeeping Certificate within one (1) year of attaining position.
• Availability to work morning, afternoon, and evening weekday hours/shifts, or weekend afternoons and evening hours/shifts.
