MAINTENANCE WORKER

About the role

This position is located at the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites operation at Naval Station Great Lakes. The purpose of this position is to perform facilities maintenance work, involving two or more of the skilled trades.

Responsibilities

  • Help ensures security of all guests is maintained at all times.
  • Ensures guest privacy is maintained at all times.
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involving standard methods related to the operation and maintenance of physical plant facilities.
  • Performs work in at least two or more of the following trades requiring a higher level of skill than NA-4749-07 in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related fixtures or having significant emphasis in one of the higher level licensed trades: Electrical; Heating, Ventilation and Cooling; or Plumbing.
  • Maintains work order log and follow up as required.
  • Reports status to supervisor.
  • Logs trouble calls with contractor as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be able to lift, move and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds unassisted (100 pounds assisted).
  • Must be able to climb/ descend stairs and ladders, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions.
  • This position is subject to the possibility of workdays on weekends and holidays, as well as, rotating shifts, often consisting of other than normal duty hours.
  • This position is subject to a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
  • Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.
  • This position may be designated ALPHA personnel for inclement weather or in the interest of national security and may be required to report for work when other employees are excused.
  • In order to verify fitness for duty, a complete physical examination may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of experience with demonstrated skill in two areas (Carpentry, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Painting).
  • Knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations concerning procedures, tools, mechanical and electrified equipment, commonly used chemicals and basic safe work practices is required.
  • Must possess a welcoming manner and positive attitude; demonstrate effective communication skills; professionally interact with guests; answering guest questions concerning hotel facilities; and provide information about local attractions.
  • Provide assistance in handling customer complaints, involving management as necessary.
  • Must possess basic math and reading skills.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English.

Education

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

  • Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
