MAINTENANCE WORKER

About the role

Performs tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment. Typical assignments include simple painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.

Responsibilities

• Receives assignments orally or via work orders and selects proper tools, methods, and techniques to complete tasks.
• Performs minor carpentry tasks on doors, windows, furniture, cabinets, platforms, bins, and pallets using tools such as hammers, hand-saws, planes, screwdrivers, and power tools.
• Inspects and ensures the proper working condition of equipment, machinery, and facilities through regular property walk-throughs.
• Prepares surfaces and paints interior items like shelves and counters; cleans and maintains painting equipment.
• Assists in the installation and repair of plumbing systems, including broken pipes, leaky faucets, and clogged drains, using tools like wrenches and pipe cutters.
• Performs electrical repairs on appliances, light fixtures, and switches by replacing or insulating defective wiring.
• Visually inspects repairs to confirm damaged or broken equipment is properly fixed.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment such as fans, air conditioners, water coolers, grills, and heat lamps, including cleaning filters, lubricating parts, and adjusting belt tensions.
• Maintains forklifts, hydraulic pallet jacks, and conveyors by checking for leaks, proper fluid levels, and operational pedals; tightens valves and cleans filters.
• Maintains compliance with local safety regulations and informs supervisors of hazardous conditions or unserviceable items.
• Takes periodic inventory of maintenance stock and equipment.
• Responds to customer questions regarding the operation of room appliances and fixtures, ensuring courtesy and customer service.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• One year of experience in general maintenance practices for buildings, grounds, fixtures, or equipment.
• One year of specialized experience in simple maintenance work such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
• High school education may substitute for up to one year of general experience (e.g., one year of high school = 3 months of experience).

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
• Regularly lifts and carries materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Works indoors and outdoors, exposed to dust, fumes, cuts, and bruises.

Schedule

Part-time (20 - 34.5 hours per week)
