About the role

Join a global team harnessing scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future. This role primarily involves performing repairs and maintenance to the building and property, maintaining mechanical equipment, and providing direct supervision to the maintenance department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist trades and contractors, and maintain contractor & supplier relationships, including vetting performance and costs
  • Assist senior facilities staff with maintenance work as required
  • Property maintenance including dumping garbage and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas
  • Operate a forklift to dump garbage, move pallets, etc.
  • Purchase and transport building materials and maintenance supplies
  • Perform maintenance on lab equipment (e.g., changing air and water filters, cleaning scrubber nozzles, greasing bearings)
  • Complete minor unsupervised building repairs such as painting, carpentry, and basic plumbing
  • Complete unsupervised mechanical work such as changing belts, bearings, shafts, and basic equipment repairs
  • Determine project requirements and call in trades or contractors as necessary
  • Supervise most facility and maintenance projects
  • Determine required supplies and place orders
  • Maintain all log books and maintenance records/schedules
  • Develop short-term and long-term maintenance planning
  • Read and interpret blueprints and structural drawings (as required)
  • Perform maintenance at other ALS USA sites as required
  • Respond quickly to off-hours alarm calls
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of company-hosted events
  • Coordinate procurement of equipment, supplies, and materials for facilities operations
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • 4-5 years’ experience with performing building/mechanical/equipment repairs and maintenance or completion of formal training from a technical institution
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving history (abstract required)
  • Forklift certificate or experience (full training will be provided)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with machines
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels
  • Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
