Maintenance Technician III

This position is for a Maintenance Technician III at our Prospect, CT Plant. The role involves maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical systems throughout the facility, executing capital projects, and performing high-level maintenance tasks to ensure timely production processes.

Schedule

Expected hours of work are 40 hours a week with a varied shift schedule of 8–10 hour shifts, including occasional overtime and weekend hours. No travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Reassemble machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
• Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and detect problems.
• Inspect or test damaged machine parts and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair.
• Lubricate or apply adhesives or other materials to machines, machine parts, or other equipment according to specific procedures.
• Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
• Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
• Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
• Maintain PM completion rate (aligned with MaintainX expectations).
• Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
• Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations.
• Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
• Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse to maintain machinery and work areas.
• Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
• Adjust, install, fabricate, and make modifications of equipment to maintain or improve safety and quality of operational conditions or equipment efficiency.
• Comply and participate in regulatory, Carlisle, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards (PSM, safety protocols, COS).
• Troubleshoot control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and PLCs.
• Calibrate controls instrumentation.
• Maintain and enhance electrical and PLC troubleshooting.
• Provide technical training and leadership to Maintenance Technicians I & II as needed.
• Articulate machine issues to vendors/engineers to resolve technical problems.
• Handle and audit preventative maintenance procedures.
• Create or improve preventative maintenance (PM) procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; technical school education preferred.
• Obtain and maintain OSHA 10 Certification.
• Four to eight (4–8) years of related maintenance experience; relevant Technical degree or certification preferred.
• Previous experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and welding maintenance areas preferred.
• Mechanical background with rotating equipment, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Obtain rigging training and certification (as needed).
• Obtain welding certification (as needed).

Skills

• Knowledge of measuring gauges such as tape measures.
• Knowledge of various hand and power tools.
• Use of micrometers, digital multimeters, and calipers.
• Prior experience operating a forklift.
• Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to comprehend complex technical topics and specialized information.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of basic math, reading, and writing skills.
• Ability to work under pressure to complete assigned tasks in stressful situations.
• Working knowledge of electrical codes including NEMA, NFPA 70E, and Arc Flash.
• Industrial electrical AC/DC troubleshooting skills, including ability to utilize electrical instrumentation (megohmmeter).
• Complete knowledge of all plant equipment (Level III).
• Ability to use hand and portable tools, gas and arc welder, forklift, pickup truck, testing equipment, tape measure, and computer (shop floor and ERP).
• PLC Knowledge.
• Proven experience in electrical/mechanical troubleshooting.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to ambient/outside temperatures, dust, mechanical parts, and pinch points. Exposure to increased noise levels, hazardous mechanical, electrical, and chemical substances/equipment, and confined workspaces.
