Maintenance Technician II (Madera)
About the role
The Skills That Drive This Role Maintenance work in Silicon Valley multifamily housing demands more than a willingness to fix things. At a property like this one in Sunnyvale, you're working within a portfolio where long-term asset quality is taken seriously. Prometheus has owned and operated Bay Area apartments since 1965, and that tenure shows in how they approach maintenance: turns get done right, not just fast, and residents are treated as neighbors in the literal sense the company uses internally. The skills this position leans on most are diagnostic thinking and trade breadth. You'll be expected to troubleshoot and repair most major mechanical systems, not just the easy calls. Appliance work, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting. The ability to move across those disciplines without needing to escalate every non-routine issue is what separates a Tech II from an entry-level hire. Two years of apartment maintenance experience is the floor here, and that experience should show up in how you handle a service request from diagnosis to close-out, with a resident waiting on the other side.
Responsibilities
Apartment turnovers are a significant part of the workload. In a tight Bay Area market where vacancy carries real cost, make-ready timelines matter. You'll carry a punch list mentality through every turn, catching what a quick walkthrough would miss and getting units back to a quality that reflects the Prometheus standard.
Service requests run alongside that work, so the ability to prioritize on the fly is genuinely useful here.
On-call availability is required, and that's worth being direct about. Standby pay and on-call premium pay are part of the compensation structure, but the expectation is real. Evenings and weekends will occasionally be part of the job.
