About the role

Volunteers of America Colorado creates specialized programs to meet the critical needs of the communities it serves. The Building Maintenance Technician I ensures buildings, equipment, and grounds are safe and in good repair, may supervise volunteers, and monitors facilities to meet safety and health requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on affordable housing facilities, including appliances, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, landscaping, and janitorial work.
  • Identify and address safety-related issues that present a possible hazard to clients, employees, facilities, or the public.
  • Assist in monitoring apartment make-ready schedules to ensure timely rent-ready units.
  • Assist in monitoring service requests to ensure 24-hour completion.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, and orderly manner that complies with agency standards.
  • Attend meetings and staff development activities as assigned, utilizing a teamwork orientation.
  • Account for maintaining proper work order procedures and related documentation according to Volunteers of America guidelines.
  • Maintain exceptional building and grounds curb appeal.
  • Provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency coverage as scheduled.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and their uses.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license, insurance verification, and good driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and maintain good relations with residents and employees.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic maintenance aptitude.
  • Communication and people skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Some work-related travel.
  • Capable of using an extension ladder to make repairs as needed.
  • Ability to perform emergency maintenance.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Required to provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency coverage as scheduled or needed.
  • Expected to work additional hours in preparation for upcoming REAC inspections at any or all facilities.

Pay

$19.29–$21.00 per hour
