About the role

Maintenance Technicians repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as printing presses, saddle stitcher/trimmers, cutters, folders, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, heating/air conditioning systems, compressed air systems, and related binding/finishing and prepress production machines and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe mechanical devices, equipment, and machinery in operation and listen to sounds to diagnose malfunctions and determine need for adjustment, repair, or replacement.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, machine parts, or specifications.
  • Dismantle machinery or equipment to access and remove defective parts.
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjust functional parts or devices and control instruments.
  • Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Assemble and test operate machinery and equipment to verify correction of malfunction.
  • Coordinate with manager and assist production operators with timely preventative maintenance and predictive parts replacement and repair.
  • Set up and operate drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Repair electrical equipment or replace faulty wiring, switches, or relays, as qualified to perform.
  • Coordinate outside services when needed.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts, repairs, or replacement equipment.
  • Monitor paper recycling operations, perform minor repairs, and coordinate outside service for major repairs and malfunctions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA and EPA federal and state rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines, as well as company safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school and three to five years of related experience and/or training, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, and communication.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement appropriate preventative measures.
  • Ability to develop new techniques for work processes.
  • Must be able to give technical direction to others and project leadership over multiple safety teams.
  • Ability to redirect focus to issues as they emerge and reprioritize based on current business conditions.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to multi-task.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling, and bending.
  • Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity, and coordination.
  • Requires near visual acuity.
  • Requires working around and operating departmental equipment.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility.
  • Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances.

Pay

$25/hour - $30/hour
