Oversee efficient operations of processing equipment through planning of changeovers, repairs, preventative maintenance, and upgrades. Support manufacturing operations—equipment preparation, wash, batching, sterile/non-sterile filling, inspection, and packaging—by ensuring timely and aseptic equipment set-ups. Continuously review equipment and line performance to minimize unplanned downtime, solve problems proactively, and identify improvement opportunities. Direct a team of mechanics, set project priorities, enforce safety and housekeeping practices, and adhere to cGMP guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, implement, and manage a process-equipment maintenance program based on industry best practices, emphasizing planning, scheduling, and preventive/predictive maintenance.
- Coordinate and direct projects and process mechanics, creating detailed plans to achieve goals and integrate technical activities.
- Ensure equipment readiness for daily and weekly start-ups, focusing on problem areas.
- Adjust daily maintenance schedules to support operations.
- Ensure preventive-maintenance tasks are completed on time and coordinated with manufacturing.
- Act as liaison to management to meet department goals.
- Coordinate shutdown activities and schedule preventive-maintenance tasks and repairs.
- Supervise process maintenance mechanics, including prioritization, work evaluation, personnel actions, and competency assessments; develop and implement training plans to address gaps.
- Hire process mechanics.
- Prepare reports, analyze data, and recommend improvements for equipment operations and maintenance-related problems.
- Track and improve key parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, and schedule compliance for manufacturing equipment.
- Manage manufacturing equipment parts inventory, balancing spare-part availability with reasonable inventory costs.
- Initiate and execute projects to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
- Communicate and coordinate maintenance efforts with the Engineering group and other stakeholders.
- Manage the use of external contractors.
- Participate in the development and review of equipment SOPs.
- Ensure compliance with all SOPs and cGMPs.
- Assist personnel with manufacturing difficulties and provide training.
- Participate in cost-estimating activities.
- Hold regular meetings with mechanics to communicate company information, set goals, and review progress/performance.
- Maintain and update operating and training manuals for mechanics.
- Coordinate communication among various shifts.
- Provide leadership in creating and maintaining a safe workplace.
- Actively participate in deviations, CAPAs, and change controls, from investigations to execution.
- Work flexible shifts, including off-hours during shutdowns and overtime as needed; may require assignment to a regular off-shift or weekend schedule.
- Lead projects and provide direction.
- Perform any other tasks/duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year in a leadership role.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant mechanic experience, with previous pharmaceutical-industry experience required.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Able to follow instructions and document activities as outlined in SOPs.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office and Windows skills.
- Well-versed in safety programs (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, line breaking).
- Advanced skills in electrical, welding, machinery troubleshooting, and mechanical equipment.
Physical Environment
- Intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping.
- May be required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb steps.
- May require use of hands and arms.
- Lifting requirements up to 50 lbs.
- Physically able to wear cleanroom/protective gowning and equipment, including gowns, goggles, face shields, respirators, and protective gloves.
Pay
Expected salary range: $91,000 – $105,000. Actual compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, education, knowledge, skills, and experience.
