About the Role

The Maintenance Shift Supervisor in Cleveland, OH serves as the first level of authority in the manufacturing plant, providing leadership, coaching, and clear direction to ensure safe operations, customer demand fulfillment, problem-solving, waste elimination, and goal achievement. This role focuses on planning, overseeing, and coordinating daily maintenance execution for facility, equipment, and machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and assist in solving complex maintenance problems and recurring malfunctions.
  • Support operational results by managing subordinates with emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance.
  • Allocate work fairly and assign tasks clearly to crew members within established guidelines.
  • Deploy appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations.
  • Identify opportunities for problem-solving teams targeting waste elimination.
  • Determine maintenance and inspection methods and direct maintenance workers in operating procedures.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, and parts for the department.
  • Utilize department measures to track performance and progress toward goals.
  • Manage daily activities of assigned employees, including safety supervision using Human Performance concepts.
  • Lead individual safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel engaged in setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment.
  • Assess training needs and assist in training initiatives.
  • Initiate timely corrective action, including addressing attendance and tardiness issues.
  • Lead rapid response to breakdown situations.
  • Ensure cost-effective completion of shift work to maintain proper process and environmental equipment operation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance technicians to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques.
  • Develop employees by providing challenging assignments, training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Implement the maintenance strategic plan to ensure cost-effective asset management, equipment viability, and team improvement.

Environment, Health & Safety

This role operates within a 24/7 manufacturing environment, requiring flexibility in scheduling and shift changes. Typical schedules include:

  • 8.5-hour shifts, Monday through Friday.
  • Alternate 12-hour shifts, rotating between 3 consecutive days and 2 consecutive days.

Overtime opportunities may arise on weekends based on business needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience performing maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR regulations (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; verification required at hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution or trade school training.
  • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, electrical, automation, and control systems maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Experience managing within the parameters of a collective bargaining agreement.
