Position located at Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) in Mackenzie Point, Alaska.

About the role

The primary responsibilities of this position include service, maintenance, and repair of building systems and equipment within a correctional facility.

Responsibilities

  • Service, clean, and repair gas fired burners, HVAC equipment, ventilation systems, refrigeration equipment, freezers, compressors, and water heaters.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine inspections and perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on all HVAC, ventilation, refrigeration, and water heating systems.
  • Obtain quotes and advise supervisor for ordering parts; ensure parts are readily available when needed.

Working Environment

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1,500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will work daily with other staff and inmates.

Minimum Qualifications

This position is part of a competency-based class specification for career areas within the Labor, Trades, and Crafts Unit. The competency specification for this job class is available at this link. Vacancies are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

  • This position requires use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary. DPS will deny clearance for applicants convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, or who are fugitives from justice.
  • All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted and pass a criminal history check.
  • The Department of Corrections follows Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards. Applicants with convictions related to sexual assault or abuse may be disqualified.
