About the role

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG), Facility Maintenance Office (FMO) is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist - Bldg./Facility/Const - Journey 1. This position is in the Labor, Trades, and Crafts (LL) bargaining unit at a wage grade 53. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Responsibilities

  • Work independently to construct, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain multiple state facilities within the guidelines of current state statutes and codes in the most efficient and economical manner possible.
  • Identify problems, make appropriate decisions for resolution, and perform construction and/or maintenance repairs as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex heating and ventilating systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Use direct digital control (DDC) control systems to optimize building efficiency and comfort.
  • Install and rebuild Toyo stoves.
  • Perform inspections and detect and identify electrical problems in lighting systems, building wiring, and electrical panels.
  • Replace and/or repair broken plumbing fixtures, e.g., toilets, urinals, and associated equipment.
  • Install, repair, and troubleshoot any plumbing issues in a variety of structures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
  • Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • May travel to remote areas of the state to support the Department's missions.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
  • State of Alaska/Department of Administration Level 1 Procurement Authority and State Boiler License must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
