About the role
The Maintenance Planner/scheduler at U.S. Pipe's Mini Mill in Bessemer, AL, plays a critical role in supporting production reliability by coordinating maintenance planning, scheduling repairs, managing work orders, and ensuring the availability of parts, equipment, and contractor resources.
Responsibilities
- Plan Maintenance Department weekend work, coordinate with the Maintenance Leadership team.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Leadership team for Planning Shutdown work.
- Control the Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Annual work order system, MaintainQ.
- Coordinate with Vendors and Contractors, using the competitive bidding process, to secure parts and contract work at a favorable cost.
- Communicate with Production and schedule requested work.
- Purchase and organize parts, supplies, and equipment required to complete open work orders and Maintenance projects.
- Create weekly and daily schedules by area specific to assigned hourly employees.
- Work with Maintenance Leadership to develop and implement preventive maintenance equipment schedules.
- Work with Reliability Engineer to generate reports to monitor maintenance execution, including but not limited to open and completed work order reports, PM Completion %, MTBF, etc.
- Analyze CMMS data to develop strategies to improve the cost effectiveness of ongoing maintenance services.
- Work with Reliability Engineer to record and maintain active critical parts equipment lists / files by department.
- Maintain CMMS database and perform routine maintenance on system.
- Request new items to be stocked in the storeroom.
- Enforce the Company's plant and safety rules and policies and issue fair and consistent discipline.
- Receive, evaluate, and respond to first-step grievances as required, consulting with the Maintenance Specialist as required.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Associate or two year technical or trade school degree is desired.
- 2-4+ years of previous maintenance planning/scheduling experience is desired.
- At least 7 years of work experience in mechanical and electrical industrial maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing, powerhouse, or construction environment.
- Ability to plan electrical and mechanical repairs and maintenance work.
- Able to identify and repair electrical and mechanical maintenance problems or administer corrective action.
- Understanding of drawings, and schematics, with ability to identify and order parts from them.
- Self-leading and possess the communication skills to work in an up-tempo team environment.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects while meeting all required deadlines.
- Good understanding of safety and the desire to follow all established procedures.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint software.
- Previous SAP and CMMS system experience is a plus.
- Previous work experience working in a union environment is a plus.
- LEAN Manufacturing/OSHA Safety certifications are a plus.
