Major Duties/Essential Functions

  • Receives requisitions for a variety of supplies.
  • Stores and issues a wide variety of supplies, parts, and equipment.
  • Provides parts and supplies information to requesting personnel.
  • Inspects goods received for proper quantity and quality.
  • Takes physical inventory and maintains adequate stock level.
  • Distributes additional supplies and parts as justified by special request.
  • Maintains records and prepares special and periodical reports.
  • Unpacks, stacks, and shelves, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Packs and/or marks stock items for shipment.
  • Affords assistance with the offloading of supplies and equipment on commercial cargo carriers.
  • Affords assistance with the unpacking, storing, and arranging of bin and bulk storage stocks and moving supplies and equipment in and out of storage by manual means or by utilizing mechanized and nonmechanized materials handling equipment.
  • Applies knowledge of facilities and related equipment to determine that the correct parts/supplies and equipment have been ordered and are on the assigned truck/van.
  • Operates vehicle/truck in making deliveries of items to designated worksites and facilities.
  • Unloads items and transports them to the delivery point and obtains receipt for items received by the responsible Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) official.
  • Performs operator preventive maintenance and servicing on assigned vehicle and apprises supervisor of any in-shop maintenance required to prevent breakdown and/or ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Performs duties related to the courier functions and handling of internal facilities mail, if assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity to perform all tasks.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel.
  • There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises.
  • This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.

Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • Some experience in warehouse operations and/or delivery.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle, as defined below, and possess a Commercial Driver's License CDL-B.
