Maintenance Operator II - Mechanical Technician

About the Role

Under general supervision, the incumbent will maintain a good working knowledge of various power plant technical systems. Responsibilities include performing mechanical preventive maintenance (PM’s), welding on plate and pipe, alignments, troubleshooting equipment, reading prints, and performing mechanical maintenance on pumps, piping, and equipment. The role also involves the use of hand tools, power tools, drill press, lathe, grinder, threader, overhead crane, rigging, and performance tools.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, identify, maintain, and repair power plant equipment.
• Perform Lockout/Tag out of equipment for maintenance work following the Fossil Tagging Procedure.
• Use mechanical measuring devices, hand tools, shop machines, welding equipment, laser alignment tools, and overhead cranes.
• Understand principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, and valves of all types.
• Comply with all Fossil Safety Procedures and Policies.
• Step up to Temporary Supervisor as needed.
• Be available to work overtime as required.
• Work under unusual and normal conditions in a power plant environment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Desired: Associate’s degree in Welding, Machinist, or Mechanics.
• Minimum experience:
  • Maintenance Operator III: 1-3 years in an industrial Mechanical Role or similar field.
  • Maintenance Operator: 3 years in an Industrial Mechanical Role or similar field.
  • Maintenance Technician: 5 years power plant experience or equivalent experience in a plant similar to a power plant working in Mechanical Maintenance.
• Desired: 5 years of experience in Industrial Mechanical Maintenance.

Skills

• Diagnose and repair pumps, valves, piping, bearings, rigging, and overhead lifting.
• Proficient in welding, alignments, rigging, and operating overhead and mobile cranes.
• Ability to read prints and troubleshoot/maintain plant mechanical equipment.
• Operate drill press, lathes, hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring tools.
• Physical ability to:
  • Lift 100 lbs.
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Climb scaffolds, stairs, and ladders.
• Team-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
• Basic computer knowledge for Entergy Fossil Applications (Time and Labor, AIMM, Maximo).

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
• Rigging certification.
• Crane Operator certification.
• Welding certifications: GTAW & SMAW.
