About the Role

The Class B Maintenance Technician requires at least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience. The role involves mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting of industrial semi-automatic and automatic equipment used in the production of lead-acid batteries.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a lead-acid battery plant while following all work rules related to personal hygiene and safe work practices to avoid lead contamination and personal injury.
  • Use hand and powered tools proficiently, selecting and using appropriate tools and shop bench tools.
  • Read and interpret technical diagrams, mechanical drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including lubrication, wear point examination, and identifying potential problems.
  • Develop root-cause analysis of failures and propose solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Perform basic building and grounds plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with operators and managers when diagnosing problems and prioritizing work.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of industrial maintenance experience; industrial maintenance technical training preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, division, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced position requiring detailed compliance.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, traverse indoor and outdoor areas, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must be able to traverse working areas below and above floor level.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to frequently bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to harmful materials such as lead and fiberglass products; periodic blood tests are required to measure lead levels.
  • Precautions are taken to reduce exposure risk and ensure safety.
  • Work in a plant/warehouse environment with varying conditions.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
  • Able and willing to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
