Maintenance Of Way Supervisor

About the role

Lead and supervise a team of Maintenance of Way Line & Signal Technicians responsible for maintaining UTA’s signal systems, crossing protection, power components, power substations, and the overhead catenary system (OCS). Ensure timely, efficient, and safe maintenance to minimize service disruptions and train new and existing staff on proper methods and technology updates.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair signal systems, grade crossing protection, traction power components, power substations, and the overhead catenary system (OCS).
• Supervise Maintenance of Way (MOW) personnel and coordinate work activities.
• Ensure maintenance is completed efficiently to avoid disruption of service.
• Train and qualify new MOW employees in safe and acceptable work methods.
• Update staff on technology changes to equipment to maintain safety and system integrity.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree required.
• Three years of experience in signal, traction power, or a closely related field at Journeyist or Class A level of competency, with advanced electrical and electronics applications.
• One year of demonstrated progressive supervisory experience in signal, traction power, or related repairs.
• Must acquire and maintain a Class A CDL and DOT Medical card within 60 days of employment.
• Valid Utah Driver’s License with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years and no DUI violations in the last 10 years.

Skills

• Principles of supervision, training, motivation, coaching, and counseling.
• Advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and principles.
• Diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul, and repair of signaling and traction power components.
• Preventive maintenance practices.
• Proficiency with maintenance/electrical tools, vehicles, machinery, and electrical systems.
• Basic proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to maintain good interpersonal relations.

Physical Requirements

• Walk long distances quickly on uneven surfaces.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and over 51 pounds occasionally on uneven surfaces.
• Prolonged periods of standing, crawling, and laying on uneven surfaces.
• Work in tight and awkward positions.
• Work outside in all weather conditions.
• Safely work at heights above 16 feet.
• Constant awareness of surroundings.

Schedule

9:00 PM – 7:30 AM with Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday off. Shift and days off are subject to change.

Pay

$91,004.16 or more, dependent on experience.
