Maintenance Mechanic III
About the role
The Maintenance Mechanic III is responsible for the most complex troubleshooting, repair, installation, and maintenance for all facilities, manufacturing and production equipment and systems, including low voltage electrical, hydraulics, carpentry, fabrication, machining, welding, plumbing, vacuum, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and other general facilities mechanical disciplines. Leads the installation, dismantling, or movement of machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. Must understand the basic principles behind Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Works Tuesday – Saturday.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses complex and aged mechanical tools and equipment; determines the most appropriate method and parts required to complete the job.
- Assembles, installs, and/or repairs wiring, low voltage electrical and electronic components, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, pipe systems (pneumatic, hydraulic), unique machinery, and equipment.
- Removes and replaces defective parts for complex problems using hand/power tools, drills, welding equipment, wrenches, hoists, cranes, test equipment, and gauges.
- Sets up and fabricates machine components on lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rulers, calipers, and micrometers.
- Fabricates, assembles, and tests parts using precision measuring devices, instruments, gauges, metal fabricating tools, and welding torches.
- Performs preventative maintenance, installation, and repair of equipment across multiple trade disciplines; uses computer systems and provides cross-functional support as a Maintenance Machinist.
- Collaborates with other departments during capital purchasing decisions by offering researched opinions on cost-effective approaches to machinery/equipment selection and functionality.
- Performs preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems throughout the facility.
- Analyzes, identifies, and corrects mechanical faults of improperly operating or inoperative machinery through trade and/or mechanical processes.
- Diagnoses mechanical problems by instrumentation, sound, and visual observation; resolves issues by consulting blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs, drawings, and expertise.
- Inspects work of Maintenance Mechanics I & II to ensure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
- Tests and runs-off machines to ensure proper operation and correction of identified problems.
- Records maintenance and repair work performed and the duration per work order.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels and anticipating needs.
- May perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to safeguard employees from unexpected energization or startup of machinery and equipment.
