We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic III to maintain and troubleshoot sortation controls, building systems, and production equipment. This advanced role requires mastery of pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, with a strong emphasis on electrical, PLC, and sortation controls to ensure peak operational performance.
Responsibilities
- Respond to critical and emergency issues within the facility, prioritizing multiple demands and making independent decisions based on operational needs.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to Maintenance Mechanic I and II team members.
- Perform general facility repairs, including minor plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, wall repair, doors, and dock plates.
- Assist Senior Mechanics with major repairs and tenant improvement projects; oversee third-party project completion.
- Support and perform reactive repairs and preventative maintenance on conveyors and sorter equipment, including pneumatic sub-systems.
- Troubleshoot conveyor system controls, adjust/calibrate, or repair as needed; collaborate with vendor partners to determine root causes and corrections.
- Oversee production-related issues and make necessary corrections to sortation controls.
- Perform preventative maintenance on production-related equipment, powered industrial trucks, and building equipment.
- Maintain complete inventory and cleanliness of all equipment and work areas; identify and correct safety hazards.
- Support the design and implementation of continuous improvement processes.
- Troubleshoot and perform tasks involving low and high voltage electrical and control systems (480V AC/DC), including repair or replacement of components.
- Recommend and perform installations of new or replacement facility equipment; oversee in-house and third-party installations.
- Detect, diagnose, and resolve electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating/cooling, and equipment problems before they impact operations.
- Ensure the maintenance shop area is organized, neat, and clean; address safety hazards and spills immediately.
- Follow all safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures, and use safe lifting techniques.
- Oversee inventories, repairs, and clean-up of equipment and work areas daily; communicate safety issues and training requirements.
- Fabricate, design, create, or repair custom equipment using materials such as wood and metal.
- Maintain accurate records, including work order tracking, filing, and updating tools and documents (e.g., Material Safety Data Sheets).
- Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, and technical documents; prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion.
- Train new associates on operational procedures, safety equipment, and hazards.
- Communicate daily with management via completed work orders or updates; oversee small to medium-sized projects and third-party vendors.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; industrial mechanic trade school courses or certificate (e.g., electrical, controls, plumbing, welding) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of five years’ experience with mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyor/sortation systems in a fast-paced production environment.
- Experience with Dematic conveyors and related production equipment (e.g., Rapid Route, Flex Sort, Crown, Raymond).
- Advanced mastery of PLC and sortation control systems.
- Working knowledge of standard building codes, safety regulations, and compliance standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, OSHA).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow blueprints, technical manuals, and engineering specifications.
- Strong prioritization, organizational, and decision-making skills; ability to oversee multiple tasks and train/mentor junior technicians.
- Ability to be on call and work days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Strong computer skills for data entry, record-keeping, and work order management.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $35.00/hour to $42.00/hour, with adjustments made to comply with all state and local minimum wage requirements.
