About the Role

Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Maintenance and Operations, the Mechanic II will perform skilled work in one of the major trades at a Journeyman level. Have a working knowledge and the ability to perform work in a minimum of three major maintenance trades in the maintenance and repair of buildings, building systems, building fixtures, and equipment; capital improvement projects, and perform related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions in this class are assigned a variety of tasks in the building trades. Work requires the use of tools and the ability to perform operations in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, roofing, and painting trades. May work with other Journeyman technicians, or work independently on projects as assigned. The ability to perform work in one trade at a Journeyman level, and lead and train Mechanic I technicians is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work in one major trade at a Journeyman level.
  • Perform maintenance and repair work in a minimum of three related maintenance trades.
  • Maintain and repair buildings, building systems, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Participate in capital improvement projects.
  • Lead and train Mechanic I technicians.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Journeyman-level knowledge of standard practices, codes, tools, materials, and processes of one major building trade.
  • Working knowledge of a minimum of three related maintenance trades.
  • Occupational hazards and proper safety procedures.

Experience:

Minimum four years experience performing building maintenance work with increasing skills and knowledge equivalent to Journeyman level.

Education:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

License:

Possession of a valid California driver's license.

Post-Conditional Offer Requirements

  • DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check
  • TB Test within the last 60 days (Education Code 49406, Assembly Bill 1667)
  • Complete district training on Mandated Reporter, Covid 19, and Sexual Harassment
  • Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District
  • Demonstrate sufficient strength, mobility, and range of motion to arm lift 50 pounds and floor lift 50 pounds.

Physical Abilities

  • With or without the use of aids, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Sufficient strength to lift non-ambulatory students, lift and move adaptive equipment, and physically restrain and control a student up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • Sufficient body movement and mobility to demonstrate gross motor activities, climb in and out of cars, vans, and buses, walk and run with students, climb well enough to go up and down stairs, and maneuver students into and out of vehicles, wheelchairs, and toilets.
  • Sufficient vision to read printed material, with or without aids.
  • Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations with or without aids.
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation.
  • Manual dexterity to write and use telephone and other business/office machines.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching, understanding, and following oral and written directions.

Pay

$30.17 to $36.69 per hour

Schedule

8 hours per day, 5 days a week, 12 months per year
