About the Role
The Maintenance Mechanic II will ensure equipment is operating safely, reliably, and optimally. This role observes all plant equipment with the intent of recommending continuous equipment improvement and reliability. You will work closely with department supervisors, leads, and processing team members to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and ensure customers receive quality products. Responsibilities
- Ensure equipment operates in a safe, reliable, and optimal manner.
- Identify ways to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and repair all related plant equipment in a timely manner with minimal downtime, demonstrating urgency and accuracy.
- Complete work orders, part requisitions, and preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on time with accuracy and excellent craftsmanship.
- Encourage good safety practices and ensure GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) are maintained within the department.
- Train mechanics of lower classification and maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.
- Maintain strong working relationships and communication with all levels of the organization.
- Uphold food safety and quality policies, including attending annual refresher training sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor.
- Withstand cold (40-48°F) and hot (80°F+) environments.
- Safely lift up to 100 lbs.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, including climbing stairs/ladders and working in confined spaces.
- Push, pull, bend, kneel, and crouch/squat as required.
Requirements
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
- Read and write English proficiently.
- Reliable transportation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Perform basic math functions and comprehend equipment manuals/instructions.
- Use welding, power tools, and cutting equipment safely.
- Solid understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels, including management.
- Work with minimal supervision and demonstrate decision-making ability for procedural deviations.
- Set an example of safe working habits for coworkers.
- Safely operate a forklift and/or pallet jack; pass company forklift assessments.
- Wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in the food industry.
- Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems preferred.
- Good understanding of electronics and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Expertise in troubleshooting and reading electrical/mechanical schematics.
- Proficient in welding, cutting equipment, and all aspects of plant maintenance systems.
- Understanding of electrical controls, wiring devices, motor controls, VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives), relay logic, and solid-state devices.
- Familiarity with pumps, gear ratios, and safe operation of hand/power tools using proper PPE.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment functions, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Metal fabrication skills and mill/lathe knowledge.
