About the Role

The Maintenance Mechanic B will ensure production equipment is operating safely, reliably, and in an optimal manner. This role will observe all plant equipment with the intent of recommending continuous equipment improvement and reliability. You will work closely with department supervisors, other department leads, and processing team members to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and ensure that our customers receive quality products. This position executes processes that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations, supporting Foster Poultry Farms’ mission, vision, and ACTION guiding principles: Accountability, Collaboration, Truth-Seeking, Initiative, Ownership, and Nimbleness.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair all related plant equipment in a timely manner and with minimum downtime, demonstrating urgency and accuracy.
  • Complete work orders, part requisitions, and preventative maintenance on time and on schedule with accuracy and excellent craftsmanship.
  • Encourage good safety practice and ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) are maintained within the department; promote engagement and leadership.
  • Train mechanics within lower classifications and maintain a clean and safe, well-organized working environment for all.
  • Maintain a good working relationship and communication with all levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure the quality and food safety of company products, adhering to policies summarized in the company handbook and reinforced through training sessions.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor.
  • Must be able to withstand a cold (40-48 degree) environment.
  • Must be able to withstand a hot (80+ degree) environment.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, kneel, and crouch/squat.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in the food industry.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Ability to comprehend equipment manuals and instructions.
  • Solid understanding of electronics and PLCs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Ability to use welding and cutting equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical controls, wiring devices, motor controls, VEFs, relay logic, and solid-state devices and controls.
  • Familiarity with pumps, gear ratios, and operation of hand and power tools.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment functions.
  • Fabrication skills as well as mill and lathe knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels including management.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Decision-making ability for flagging deviations from procedures.
  • Able to work safely and set an example of safe working habits for coworkers.
  • Ability to safely operate forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Must pass company forklift assessments to obtain a company-issued forklift license.
  • Must wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
