Maintenance Mechanic General Duty- Evening Shift

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks for buildings and machinery/equipment, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting.
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to ensure smooth operation of machines, efficient building systems, and preservation of building conditions.
  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts; check fluid levels; replace filters; and perform other maintenance actions using checklists.
  • Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical work not requiring a license.
  • Clean and perform scheduled maintenance on Physical Plant rotating equipment.
  • Assist others with repairs requiring two or more people.
  • Assist Campus Safety with fire alarm calls when necessary.
  • Submit work requests for non-urgent building maintenance needs.
  • Perform basic computer checks/changes on campus Energy Management Systems.
  • Conduct Life/Safety inspections.
  • Operate in alignment with Clarkson University values in all daily activities.
  • Work safely and maintain high housekeeping standards at all times.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to interns, apprentices, and/or student workers.
  • Complete Clarkson Vehicle Safety Checklist before vehicle use and maintain assigned vehicle in clean and working condition; report concerns immediately.
  • Operate a Clarkson vehicle in accordance with University policy.
  • Deliver timely, friendly, and effective service to University faculty, staff, and students.
  • Encourage and promote teamwork.
  • Participate in reporting campus damage and/or safety issues.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (minimal qualification).
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • One year of experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Documented record of taking courses/training to stay current and grow skills in trade.
  • Enthusiasm for the job, a customer service approach, and willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to meet University insurance standards.
  • General knowledge of campus procedures for emergency situations, campus layout, and building locations.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills; proficient mathematical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to function under stressful conditions and/or high volume with short turnaround.
