General Mechanic - Night Shift
About the role
The General Mechanic plays a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing processing and packaging equipment within the manufacturing operations and processes. This position involves preventative and reactive maintenance, providing technical support to improve manufacturing operations, and assisting the Maintenance Lead in driving out top losses.
Responsibilities
- Preventative and reactive maintenance of processing and packaging equipment
- Providing technical support to improve manufacturing operations
- Improving safety and driving out top losses with the Maintenance Lead and Line Team
- Eliminating breakdown-related losses and handling defects
- Building capability in Operating Teams
- Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts - 2 on followed by 2 off, 3 on followed by 2 off, 2 on followed by 3 off, 6:00 pm to 6 am night shift
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency events
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Proficient in English
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues
- Skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment
- Associate Degree or relevant 2 years of experience with no degree
- Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of PLC operation, electrical components, and systems troubleshooting, including use of a multimeter
- Basic shop equipment (mill, lathe, grinder, presses, etc) preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred
- Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, including overtime as needed to support the plant
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting over surfaces
- Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
- Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
- Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
- Associate Degree or relevant 2 years of experience with no degree
- Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of PLC operation, electrical components, and systems troubleshooting, including use of a multimeter
- Basic shop equipment (mill, lathe, grinder, presses, etc) preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing/production environment preferred

- Ability to perform preventive and predictive maintenance on line equipment as well as reactive work when lines are down
- Ability and aptitude to learn and perform jobs on and off the platform
- Ability and aptitude to learn and perform minor machining and welding, TIG, MIG, and ARC

Pay
- $28.64 per hour to start
- $33.18 per hour after 12 months in role (with completion of required training)
- $35.08 per hour within 12-18 months in role (with completion of required training)
- $33.18 per hour within 18+ months in role (with completion of required training)
Schedule
- Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts - 2 on followed by 2 off, 3 on followed by 2 off, 2 on followed by 3 off, 6:00 pm to 6 am night shift
- Every other weekend is a 3-day weekend
- Cycle length is 2 weeks
