About the Role
As a Steel Processing Maintenance Technician at Electric Boat, you will troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain various specialized mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems/components. This role primarily involves working on CNC-controlled cutting and pressing equipment, as well as robotics. You will report directly to the maintenance operations supervisor and collaborate with production teams and vendors.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems/components.
- Maintain CNC-controlled cutting and pressing equipment, as well as robotics.
- Work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Follow procedural compliance and engineered procedures with attention to detail.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
- Diagnose analog and digital field components, input/output devices, and PLCs.
- Work with electrical systems up to 600 volts, including control voltage.
- Use diagnostic tools such as volt meters, amp meters, meggers, data loggers, micrometers, calipers, test gauges, and temperature measuring devices.
- Perform physical tasks including climbing, crawling, lifting, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of facilities/machine maintenance experience.
- Ability to work overtime and/or later shifts to return equipment to service.
- Availability to work all shifts.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specific trade licensing (e.g., Electrical, HVAC/refrigeration).
- Knowledge of hydraulic system component diagnostics, repair, and failure analysis of valves, stacks, pistons, and rams operating at pressures in excess of 5000 PSI.
- Completion of a mechanical/electrical or hydraulic trade school or apprenticeship program.
- Proven robotics experience (Panasonic, Sinumerik, Fanuc).
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Vocational, technical, or community college education, or completion of an apprenticeship program.
- Military skills.
- Experience diagnosing PLCs, including analog and digital field components and input/output devices.
Physical Qualifications
- Climbing, crawling, heavy lifting, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, and twisting.
- Color vision.
- Ability to work from ladders and lifts while wearing fall protection.
Environmental Attributes
- Exposure to acids or alkalis, cold, dry, dusty, fumes, hot, inside, noise, oily, outside, and wet conditions.
